Dr Andy Ng’s Jan, 2024 break:

Antelope Canyon, Page, AZ

Janet had this place on her bucket list, and I was so happy to accompany her to this wonderful place.  Going from February 2-4, was a good choice as it was low season and our tour group had only 8 persons with a fantastic guide.  Buy your tickets at the upper canyon office for $80-$100; buying beforehand is $150-$250, so avoid getting from online ticket scalpers.

MUSIC POLICIES 2025-DR ANDY NG

Thursday, January 9, 2025 by Andy Ng | Music Policies

Dr Andy Ng Music Lesson Policies 2025

Version 35–1/9/25

#musiclessonpolicy

Why learn with Dr Andy NG?—27 Reasons

Teaches violin, viola, piano, cello, guitar & music theory (Solfège, rhythmic syllables, perfect pitch, singing, intervals, improvisation, composition, conducting).

1:  Music lessons are my most important thing. Providing you with a great music learning experience is my #1 priority.

2:  Well experienced teacher with ATCL (Associate Trinity College London) in Teaching Violin, MMus (Master of Music in Violin Performance, University of Redlands), Teachers’ training with Suzuki Violin Books 1, 2 & 4 and over 55 years of teaching experience.

3: Your lessons can begin whenever you are ready. Dr Ng teaches year-round with new students starting weekly.

4:  Many instruments and lesson times:  You and your family can take violin, viola, cello, piano, and more! For your convenience Dr Ng is available 6 days a week.

5:  Head of Strings at Bentley Music in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr  Ng supervised & trained other music teachers.

6:  No Long-Term Contract
Lessons are on-going and weekly (72 lessons/year schedule), and tuition is paid monthly. Take lessons as long as you like. To withdraw from lessons just give us a withdrawal notice by the 15th day of your final month.

7:  Private Music Lessons
One-on-one private music lessons are a time honored tradition, offering many advantages for you. They provide great flexibility, are easy to schedule, and are available in a wide variety of instruments. Three weekly: 25, 40 or 55 minute lessons, averaging three lessons per month.  25-minute private lesson = $47.25/session, 40-minute private lesson=$73.50/session; 55-minute private lesson=$94.50/session.

8:  Group music theory classes for 40 minutes: Every student is encouraged to attend 40-minute theory classes  weekly. Theory classes are $26.25/session.

—Theory homework with internet games:  app.SPROUTBEAT.com

9:  Please Note: There are no reimbursements for missed lessons, and tuition is never adjusted unless the teacher is absent and cannot provide the promised number of lessons.

10:  Music Rainbow System (MRS) Certificates, & Award Wristbands to Celebrate Achievement. Dr Ng gves his students the opportunity to earn special color wristband bracelets AND certificates for passing musical tests. When our students have a test coming up, they practice more, their family members are proud, your teacher is proud.

11:  Year Round Lessons—
Music lessons are offered year round, because that is the best way to learn music. You won’t have to worry about missing lessons during your summer vacation because Dr Ng has an awesome make-up lesson policy.

12:  Awesome Free Make-Up Lessons
—If you need to miss your lesson because you are sick, on vacation, or whatever, you can
SIGN-UP for free group make-up lessons. That’s right, free!

#musiclessonpolicy

Why learn with Dr Andy NG?—27 Reasons

Teaches violin, viola, piano, cello, guitar & music theory (Solfège, rhythm, perfect pitch, singing, intervals, improvisation, composition, conducting).

1:  Music lessons are my most important thing. Providing you with a great music learning experience is my #1 priority.

2:  Well experienced teacher with ATCL (Associate Trinity College London) in Teaching Violin, MMus (Master of Music in Violin Performance, University of Redlands), Teachers’ training with Suzuki Violin Books 1, 2 & 4 and over 56 years of teaching experience.

New from 2024, August: app.SPROUTBEAT.com—Theory homework with internet games. Theory classes are $26.25/session.

Dr Ng gves his students the opportunity to earn special color wristband bracelets AND certificates for passing musical tests. When our students have a test coming up, they practice more, their family members are proud, your teacher is proud.

13. Ubicación conveniente y horarios comerciales- Dr Ng enseña en California Keyboards Music Center, 2408 Brundage Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93304.

HORARIO: Clases 5 días a la semana. De lunes a viernes de 10:00 a 18:55.

#—Covid-19 strikes Dr Ng

On 9/18/23,  I was coughing like crazy, didn’t sleep well the previous night because of upset stomach and splitting headache, so the Covid kit test confirmed I had Covid-19.  My vaccines & boosters: Sinovac (9/14/21), AstraZenica (10/12/21); Pfizer booster (2), Moderna Booster —(5/27/22)

Result is to continue classes on FaceTime, Messenger or RockOutLoud app with the best audio, until my Covid is gone.  Group theory classes can continue with zoom.

Monday, 9/18/23,  preparation for the 9/24/23 MTAC recital took 2-3 hours.  All students and families are invited to attend the free recitals at 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm at Mill Creek Christian church, 1616 S St, Bakersfield, about opposite the AMTRAK Station.

Optional help:

The next 2 weeks, Dr Ng is off, but if you need help, please record short videos 30 sec-2 min., during your normal weekly lesson time—of your challenging sections of pieces to email to teacher for comments of improvement.

Early life of Amadeus Mozart—-Who are those strangers whose music I play.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart improvised at the age of two and played violin by ear in his father’s quartet at the age of four.  One amazing story tells how little Mozart actually substituted for a violinist one night simply by picking up the instrument and playing without any prior tutelage.  Wolfgang wrote notes before words. The baby sat at the clavier for any length of time, willingly and eagerly touching the keys tentatively and delicately.  At five he cared for nothing but music.  His first book of minuets and songs was published when he was six.  One of young Mozart’s tricks was to play and improvise on the clavier for the Kings and Queens of Europe—-blindfolded!

WHO WANTS PERFECT PITCH?

I just returned from a visit to my mother, Ann Ng who is only 95 years young—she is doing fine; and my musical sister, Angeline Ng-Schalesky, 53, who is an accomplished concert pianists and has a very special talent—she has perfect pitch!  You play any piece and she will know what key it is in, like A major or B minor.  This talent is rare but I hope all my students can develop perfect pitch.  How?  Well everyday try to sing the A4-440, the A above middle C, or the A of the 2nd string of the violin or the 1st string of the viola and cello or 5th string of the guitar.  Than compare with the piano or instrument and see how close you are.  Parents, please help me train your children to develop perfect pitch by testing them everyday. Make it a game and have fun.

WHO WANTS TO BECOME A FAMOUS COMPOSER? (I got this idea from Angeline Ng again)

Road to becoming a composer: Begin to copy Bach or any music piece you are learning, every day in a beautiful manuscript book.  Start with 2-4 measures. Aim for 2 lines everyday

Angeline has a friend who did this as a music student and now she is composing wonderful music. Adult students and parents of my students, please get a quality manuscript book and encourage your student or yourself to start copying music, 2- lines of Mozart’s Twinkle Variations (in full) and Theme; and best of all Johan Sebastian Bach’s works from Minuet I to his mighty organ or orchestral works. Doing this daily will be the goal.
